Gilbert Montagné was born on December 28, 1951 in the twentieth arrondissement of Paris. Born prematurely, he is blind from birth. The family, of which he is one of four children, does not neglect the music and Gilbert Montagné receives a classical education in a specialized institution until his 10 years. Alone, he turns to variety, jazz and rock. From age 10 to 16, he is studying at the National Institute of Blind Youth. It was at this time that he decided to become a musician.
At the age of 16, he begins to make some auditions in record companies. Unfortunately, a reproach is made to him: he seems too "American". He still records a first 45-round "When you close your eyes" which knows no success.
He then moved to the United States, to Miami where he joined his sister who is a French teacher. He is studying classical...
